What Is Involved With Getting Your Truck Licence, And How Long Does It Take
Getting of Truck licence comes under Medium Rigid or Heavy Rigid licence class depending on the number of axles. Major is the only Qld based driver training school to have a fully functioning heavy vehicles and trucks for driver training.
To get a medium rigid (MR), or heavy rigid (HR) truck license, one must have held an open or provisional class C or LR licence or equivalent for 12 continuous months or more. To get a truck license you must have to hold an open or provisional class C licence for 24 continuous months or an open or provisional LR/MR licence for 12 continuous months or more.
For heavy combination (HC) license you must have to hold an open or provisional class MR or HR licence or equivalent for 12 continuous months or more.
For your multi combination (MC) license you must have held an open or provisional class HR (Heavy Rigid) or HC (Heavy Combination) license for 12 continuous months or more. Additionally, you must have to successfully complete one of the Truck License Training programs, and two Multi-Combination Courses – Up to 2 1/2 days competency-based one-on-one program (for HR License holders) and Multi-Combination Course – 1 day competency-based one-on-one program (for HC license Holders).
You have to successfully pass a Heavy Vehicle knowledge test with the Queensland Transport Department and Eyesight test (With a Qld Transport charges an $18.45 fee for this service) in both cases.
Furthermore, you have to pay a Test Booking fee to the Qld Transport Department. The booking receipt is important and it should be retained as you will need the receipt number to make a Test Booking at Major Operator and Driver Training Service.
You must also be able to use a Road Ranger gearbox before you can attend the MC course or the Heavy Combination training.
